(CBC) Calgary police have charged a man with murder in connection with the fatal shooting at a Forest Lawn barbershop last month.Redear Kadir-Shahwan faces a first-degree murder charge from that incident as well as a number of charges including attempted murder from a near-fatal shooting on Jan. 24. He made a brief court appearance today and will be back in front of a judge on Dec. 18. On Nov. 14, Khaled El-Ajami, 30, was a customer in the shop in the 5100 block of 20th Avenue S.E. when a man came in, engaged him in a short conversation, then pulled out a gun and shot him. El-Ajami, who was known to police, was declared dead at the scene. Investigators believe it was a targeted attack linked to an ongoing dispute among gangs involved in the drug trade. On Jan. 24, police responded to reports of gunfire around the 5300 block of Rundlehorn Drive N.E., near a Rundle liquor store. A 30-year-old was taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries. At the time, police said they believed it was a targeted shooting connected to organized crime and drugs. Two others have also been charged for their alleged roles in connection with the fatal shooting. |
