Former UFC fighter Tim Hague died Sunday after going into critical condition following a Friday night boxing match.

Hague's sister Jackie Neil confirmed her brother's death in a brief social media post on Sunday afternoon.

"It is with incredible sadness, sorrow and heartbreak to report that Tim has passed away today. He was surrounded by family, listening to his favourite songs. We will miss him with so greatly," Neil wrote.

Hague's family has asked for privacy.

Hague suffered a brain haemorrhage sustained after the KO 79 boxing match-up against former Edmonton Eskimos player Adam Braidwood at the Shaw Conference Centre.

Before news of Hauge's death early Sunday afternoon, Edmonton Combative Sports Commission Pat Reid said that a post-fight official review is conducted immediately after each competition.

"Following the news that boxer Tim Hague is in critical condition following a professional boxing match on Friday, June 16, 2017, we have extended the request for reports to all referees, ringside judges, physicians, chief inspector, paymaster and the presiding inspectors assigned to the bout. We will determine the next steps following the evaluation of these reports," the statement reads.

Hague's mixed martial arts career began in 2006 where he held the King of the Cage Canada's heavyweight title.

The heavyweight made his Ultimate Fighting Championship debut on May 23, 2009, where he won by submission with a guillotine choke against Pat Barry.

Hague signed on for a multi-fight contract with Maximum Fighting Championship (MFC) back in 2012.
