Suncor kicks off annual food bank drive with $50K donation

2015 marks event's 30th year Suncor Energy kicked off the CBC Calgary Suncor Food Bank Drive 2015 on Tuesday with a $50,000 donation. Cathy Glover, Suncor's director of community investment, presented the round Christmas-decoration cheque to the CBC's Angela Knight and Calgary Food Bank CEO James McAra, left, and CBC communications manager Suzanne Waddell, far right. (@CBCcalgary/Twitter) The CBC Calgary Suncor Food Bank Drive 2015 kicks off today, and the Calgary-based energy company got the ball rolling this morning with a $50,000 donation.Cathy Glover, the company's director of community investment, said Suncor is proud to continue its long-standing association with the CBC's 30th annual food bank fundraiser, particularly in a year that has seen so many Calgarians suddenly out of work and needing help. "Well, you know, we're part of the city," she said. "It's been a challenging year for all of us in the oilpatch." Calgary Food Bank CEO James McAra said the donation will go a long way in what's shaping up to be a tough several months ahead. "I love the commitment that Suncor has to making things better here in Calgary," he said. Every $1 donation to the food bank can be turned into $5 worth of food, McAra said.
