Calgary police have worked with Mounties to link the recovered property to more than 30 residential break-ins in Calgary and the surrounding area in the past 12 years. Investigators got their big break in the case after a resident living on Evergreen Way S.W. reported on Sept. 8 that thieves had broken into their home. The resident provided a detailed description of the suspects and vehicle seen leaving the scene, which led police to a home on Coville Circle N.E. where they executed a search warrant and arrested two men. The Calgary Police Service has laid almost 70 charges against two individuals believed to be responsible for multiple break and enters in Calgary and southern Alberta. A photo of some of the 400 items police suspect are stolen. Officers recovered 400 items, worth well over $100,000, that they suspected were stolen, including jewelry, computers, collectibles, other electronics, sports equipment, safes and military medals. They also seized fentanyl, marijuana, heroin and oxycodone, worth an estimated $18,000, along with two firearms and ammunition. Kelly John Wills, a 33-year-old Calgary man, is charged with 26 counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, three counts of house break-and-enter and theft and three counts of possessing a controlled substance, among a slew of other offences. Randy James Lorrain, 32, of Calgary, is charged with 24 counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, two counts of having stolen items worth more than $5,000 and one count of house break-and-enter and theft, among other offences. Police said they have returned many of the stolen items to their owners, but they are still trying to find owners of hundreds of items. They have released photos of unclaimed property in the hopes of finding the rightful owners. Officers say the investigation is ongoing and that anyone with information about these or other break-ins should call them or Crime Stoppers. |
